Nikolaos Papanikolaou, Ph.D.

Biomedical Engineer

He studied biomedical engineering at the Technological Institute of Athens while he obtained his Ph.D. from the Medical School of the University of Crete on the topic of “Technical Development and Clinical Evaluation of Novel Imaging Techniques of the Gastrointestinal Tract with MRI” under the supervision of Prof. N. Gourtsoyiannis. He has been working for Philips Medical Systems from 1991 to 1998, while he joined for six months the MR Clinical Science department in Best, The Netherlands. He has been a research associate of the Department of Radiology, University Hospital of Heraklion from 1999 to 2009, and he has been an MR Applications Consultant for Siemens Healthcare from 2002 till today. During the last 20 years, he has been invited in several countries to support Philips and Siemens MRI scanners including Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Austria, Cyprus, England, Turkey, Lithuania, and Israel. In 2009, he has been started a company focused on comprehensive MR Applications Support Services mainly utilizing remote access for protocol optimization and remote training tasks. N. Papanikolaou & Associates is providing a comprehensive plan of services to support state of the art MRI clinical applications. During his academic career, he has published 51 scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals, 14 chapters in international books. He has delivered 56 lectures in international congresses and educational courses. He served as a member of editorial board of European Radiology in the section of experimental radiology, while he was a member of the abdominal subcommittee of ECR from 2007-2009. He has been awarded several scientific prizes and he has received 2 research scholarships from ECR. He was awarded as an honorary member of the Spanish Society of Gastrointestinal Radiology (SEDIA) and a fellow in ESGAR. In 2014 he became an affiliated researcher in Karolinska Institute, Stockholm and in Institute of Computer Science, FORTH, Heraklion. From 2016 till today he is the head of Computational Clinical Imaging Group at Champalimaud Foundation, Lisbon Portugal focusing exclusively on Radiomics and AI applications in Medical Imaging.

Stratos Karavasilis, Ph.D.

MR Physicist

Stratos graduated from the Physics Department of University of Ioannina in Greece and he also obtained his M.Sc in Medical Physics from the University of Athens, Greece.  He has six years of experience as an MR Physicist working mainly on Philips MRI scanners. He is very skilfull on protocol optimization and tailoring to Radiological clinical needs. He has extensive knowledge on pre and post-processing in the fields of neuroimaging (fMRI, DTI, Perfusion, Spectroscopy), bone or joint imaging (T1, T2, T2* mapping, ultra-high-resolution imaging) and body exams (multi-parametric imaging).

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anastasios Karatopis, M.Sc.

Biomedical Engineer

Anastasios Karatopis is a Biomedical engineer with more than 10 years’ experience in the field of medical imaging and especially in clinical and technical magnetic resonance imaging applications. He worked as an Application Specialist in the field of advanced imaging applications and as an MRI Clinical Educator. His expertise in MRI include diffusion imaging (DWI & DTI), spectroscopy (MRS & MRSI), advanced neuroimaging, oncologic imaging, IBD imaging, thalassemia beta imaging and qualitative assessment, T1 and T2 quantitative imaging and mapping, advanced cardiac imaging and image processing ,fetal, neonatal and pediatric imaging, MSK imaging, advanced MR angiography applications, post-processing of prostate, breast, liver, cardiac and neuroimaging studies and knowledge of technical background of magnetic resonance imaging systems (mainly GE), QA & image quality assessment and MRI safety. In MRIcons he worked mainly for the development and deployment of MRExcellence platform, for the onsite and remote support, protocol optimization and training for several MRI scanners. Also, he performs post-processing of multiparametric examinations with CAD analysis software for prostate, breast and brain studies.
